Exemastane

I have been using exemastane for almost 4 years now. In this time I've gained around 10 kilos and can't lose it no matter how carefully I eat, I have swollen ankles and hands and sleep very poorly. Has anyone else experienced this? Most side effects given of this medication say that it causes potential loss of appetite but this has been far from the case with me.

Thank you

  • Hi, I’m also on Exemestane and try to eat healthily and exercise as much as possible, but my weight has remained stubbornly stable, I have put on girth around my abdomen again in spite of my efforts. I just hope my story will help reassure you….

However, I had a previous 5 years on oestrogen busting meds, 3 on Letrozole and 2 on Tamoxifen ( swapped onto that due to its lesser effect on bones, but Onco feels it let me down) but managed to lose weight in the year I had clear before my recurrence. I’ve stayed stubbornly at the weight I lost since

i just hope that my efforts will bear fruit in just over 3 years time when I will be off that drug too….

  • Hi R.Vee I have been on exemastane for about 18 months and have put weight on too.  I don't like the way I look now and clothes don't fit me anymore.  Some people think it's a small price to pay but it is depressing.  I think if I have to have this sh--t disease and take all this medication why can't it reduce my appetite Grin.  I joined slimming world but only lost 3kg so just gave up.

  • Hello R Vee.     Yes put on weight with exemestane  and nothing shifted it and then became grossly hypothyroid after being stable for 20 + years so since Feb tying to get the right dose now to treat that . Not healthy eating nor exercise have moved as much as a gram ,it’s just so frustrating. As for loss of appetite ,l could eat all day so have to distract myself and stick to three meals a day only, sometimes only two. Swollen hands and ankles are now normal and as for sleep, well you know how that goes. Oh the joys of this rotten illness but just have to power though at least it’s treatable.
