HI, I wonder if anyone has any ideas regarding weight loss. MY daughter was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. My daughter had a single mastectomy and some lympnodes removed. She then started chemotherapy, which she coped with remarkably well. After the chemo she had radiotherapy for three weeks and all seemed great. AT the beginning of all this it was discovered she was 10 weeks pregnant. Really difficult decisions were made and the pregnancy went ahead. A beautiful healthy baby was born after the chemo and before the radiotherapy. She has had so much to cope with over the last year that weight gain does not seem fair. She is putting on weight every week. She is small in stature and now weighs 30 kilo more than she did when she was pregnant. She is exercising every day, eating healthily and is putting on a couple of kilos every week. Doctors are just saying her hormones are all over the place and don’t know what they can do to help. They are now offering her weight loss jabs, which she does not want to take as her body has had enough chemicals pumped into it. Does anyone have any ideas of what she can do or point us in the right direction.
Hi GratefulGran Sorry to hear your daughter is struggling with weight gain. She has been through a lot and it’s lovely to hear about the safe arrival of your grandchild - congratulations!
i think our bodies take time to adjust with all the treatments and your daughter has the added layer of pregnancy. Once things regulate, I imagine the weight will come off - she is doing all the right things. One thing that might help is seeing a personal trainer - I see someone once a month and it keeps me on track and helps me make sure I am getting the right balance for fitness and weight management.
Hi, this must be so frustrating, I too struggle with weight so I feel for her. I wonder if her GP offers support from a nutritionalist? This is something my GP offered to me (though personally I didn't take it up) but it might be worth asking. I love the personal trainer idea too. Best of luck
Many thanks, she is thinking about this, but at the moment she is walking 7 k every morning, swimming and looking after a baby which keeps her active.
Thank you for this idea, she is living in the Far East at the moment and eating fairly healthily at the moment, doing loads of exercise and putting on the kilos. I will suggest this to her. Thanks again.
Hi GratefulGran, very glad to hear your daughter is doing so well . I can empathise - my daughter finished two years of aggressive treatment a year ago and she's still really struggling to lose the weight she put on. Eats healthily, exercise classes and running but it's just not happening. She has now decided to pay for a personal trainer for a while and has booked 12 sessions to start with. Only had two so far but she's hoping it will make a difference.
Very best wishes to you and your daughter. xx
Thank you for your reply. We are thinking we may have to go down this route as well. Good luck to your daughter I wish her every success. Thank you.
One thing I have learned from a personal trainer is that it’s what you do rather than how much you do. And that strength training is also very important for weight management.
I hope you can find something that helps.
Thank you. Good luck to you and wishing you all the best.
