Vagina issues

I thought I had gotten away with this particular side effect of letrozole.  Any recommendations?   I am oestrogen positive.  GP or breast care nurse?

  • Hello, I’d had problems way before the bc hit, and was already having Vagifem pessaries prescribed. I gather there’s little to no oestrogen absorbed from these, and my bc team agreed that I continue as stopping would land me at high risk of UTIs.

I gather there’s more solutions out there than at the time I started with problems, other ladies may well add their ‘saviours’. I’m on my own aged 80 so the physical side isn’t a problem!

  • Try Yes vm - natural and organic. Available from most chemists.
My GP prescribed estradiol which is hormone based and suggested checking with oncologist if I found it effective - I never collected it from the pharmacy.

  • I am not on oestrogen blockers as my cancer is TNBC but I have suffered from atrophy for a number of years. I use Vagifem twice a week and non hormonal solutions most other days. When I was first diagnosed with TNBC  I expressed relief that I wouldn’t have to stop Vagifem yo be told there wouldn’t be a problem with continuing with it even if my cancer were oestrogen driven. I don’t think the inserts on the packs have caught up with this thinking yet, some people do seem to need to make a fuss to get it prescribed. I left it far too long post-menopause and really regret not getting help sooner.

  • Hi, this is such an uncomfortable and little discussed side effect. I get Replens on prescription, it helps with day to day dryness and is oestrogen free.   Best wishes

  • I was estrogen positive and even though I am 15 years post menopause, I had never had an issue until I started Letrazole.  I use YES moisturiser which keeps things in condition, but not enough to be useful.  So I recently bought the YES water based lubricant-but its so awkward and a turn off introducing it, so I haven't as yet.

  • Thanks all for the advice x
