Found something on first mammogram after treatment

I have been crying all day. The breast clinic called me this morning and said they have found something on my mammogram.

For those who don’t know me now (anxious Annie who posts all the time). I have had mastectomy, chemo and radiotherapy. Chemo ending Aug and radiotherapy ending October.

I had my first mammogram and breast MRI with contrast a few weeks ago. The MRI showed no signs of cancer but the mammogram has shown a small dot and they have asked me to go in next week for another mammogram and ultrasound. I am absolutely petrified and can’t stop crying.

I need to know good or bad has this happened to anyone else? I was not expecting this so soon after all the treatments I’ve had. Are the treatments not doing anything? So much going around my head now Cry

  • Oh gosh Sparkle, I'm so sorry you're going through this.
    It's exhausting isn't it?
Just when you thought it was over.

I had a similar experience just in December/January of this year, and, after a battery of tests and scans, they concluded that it was tissue changes , probably from the Radiotherapy.
When they told me this I remembered reading about this in the booklets that are handed out during our treatment.

    Sending you hugs

  • I’m sorry you went through the same, the worry is just awful. This is in my “good” breast so won’t be anything from radiotherapy. I just want to get on with my life and feel like I’m being held back again scared of having to walk the walk again.

  • As deebee says it could be something from radiotherapy. It’s faitrly reassuring that it’s only shown in the mammogram not the MRI with contrast and I think very reassuring that they are right onto it.
it’s awful having these things come at you though. I had a nasty week or so when after a CT scan they wanted to do a PET  CT. I was so relieved eventually to find out that my grade 3 cancer was at least just primary

    All the best.ccc

  • Oh gosh I'm sorry, I hadn't realised that it was found in your 'good' breast.
    - that awful feeling of waiting and not being able to move forward or make plans.
I completely understand what you mean about the fear of having to walk the walk again.

  • Hi Sparkle

I too was going to suggest a radiotherapy late effect until i saw your follow up message

I went for my 1st mammogram last October and they could see something they didn’t like. Long story short I had a couple more biopsies, a PET/CT scan and further surgery to remove some troublesome scar tissue, which in turn has created more quite extreme scarring

The surgeon is fairly sure it’s not cancer, but my scarring/poor healing has been really quite problematic and he thinks it’s down to radiotherapy late effects

I was curious if anyone else had had the same problem? I sailed through the radiotherapy without a second thought but it obviously had a serious impact on my tissue

Good luck - i hope yours turns out to be nothing

  • Im waiting for the results from  my first follow up mammogram.    Just hope thry come through pretty quick. I feel in limbo again.

Hope everything is OK with you x

  • Hi Deebee

See my separate reply to Sparkle. I’m almost relieved that you’ve had the same thing. i had been recovering so well but this most recent surgery and reaction has really knocked me back. I’m sure we were warned about possible reactions to the Radiotherapy but it’s been really quite surprising how intense the impact is 10 months later

I hope you’re back in good health x

  • I hope your results are ok I’m sure they will be.

  • I hope all went well  I am a fellow sufferer from constant anxiety and had several posts a few months ago.  I massively appreciated your replies to those, which made me feel easier.

I hope the scans showed that all was OK.

    Take care  x
