Hello Everyone.
I'm in turmoil. My hair has dropped, even after having the cold cap for all of my chemo's
I want to do all I can to help it grow back. Can anyone recommend any shampoo's/treatments etc? You see so much advertised etc, but do any of them actually work? Am I best just letting time do it's thing?
Many thanks all. <3
Hi Katie
I am sorry to hear that the cold cap did not work as you had hoped. I did scalp cooling in 2022.
I shed hair with each cycle but also kept some hair. Once chemo had finished I wanted to do everything possible to support regrowth. From memory it was around 4-6 weeks post chemo that I noticed the first signs of regrowth and it soon filled in the thin patches. I do believe that for me scalp cooling helped protect my hair follicles and once it had started regrowth was faster than I thought. Shedding stopped around the same time. I did have another shed post chemo which I was told can happen.
I carried on with the hair care I did during scalp cooling for a couple of months. I did not find anything that particularly sped up the regrowth. I focussed on condition and trimming off any dry brittle hair. It was a process rather than a quick step. By 6 months I looked a lot better. At around 12 months I had my normal hair back although it was shorter than before. At 2 years it looked as before.
As my hair regrew I used some leave in conditioner on that helped- Child's farm from Tesco. I continued to wash my hair twice a week and let it dry naturally. No colouring or heat for a few weeks. It takes time for your body to recover from chemo and I believe the same for your hair. Gentle shampoo and dry naturally. Luke warm water. Between washes I used some volumising dry shampoo and I also used some spray in root cover to disguise any thinner patches for a few weeks.
I did take some multi vitamins and minerals (after asking my CNS) but this was more for general recovery.
I hope you see some regrowth soon. I used to take photos once a week. When you are just looking in the mirror each day it is not easy to see the regrowth but doing it once a week showed how quickly it was coming in.

Thank you. That helps. I think just carrying on as I am is a sensible idea. I will just have to be patient
For the first month it will feel like its not happening, but then once it starts, it came in fast for me.
I finished chemo 4th Aug. My hair is still so short. I’ve used watermans consistently and not much change. I’ve used growth serums and not much happened. I’ve just started using nizoral for dandruff but supposed to be good for growth also so we shall see.
I know it’s so frustrating.
Good Luck!! I don't think there is any miracle cure!! I think I will just have to wait for it to grow back x
Thank you! Yes I don’t think there is. I want to get a mesh integration but just waiting for my hair to get a little longer.
