Prosthetics from NHS. Boost.

I'm hoping to have a bilateral mastectomy. I anticipate going flat for much of the time however I may change my mind so I'm looking at options on prosthetics. I have had a standard NHS one to level up my Dolly and Twiggy. I found it hot and generally uncomfortable with the result it was only worn for high days and holidays. I've had two in 18 years.

I have been doing a bit of research and spotted the Boost prosthetic. Has anyone any experience of them? Has anyone managed to get them on the NHS? Is there a variety available on the NHS? Do the NHS do two fastened together?I can imagine two separate ones going adrift like my single one did.

I may have to persuade my surgeon to do the bilateral so I need  as much information about alternatives further down the line.

Thank you.

  • Hi

I have a boost prosthetic. Not aware you can get one through NHS though.

It is very much lighter and easier to wear. It’s more comfortable in hot weather and you can swim with it. It is also washable which is a big plus. And it gives a nice shape so very happy with mine and theycome in lovely colours. Altogether more pleasing and although expensive well worth it.

The NHS is too heavy for me and hardly worn. I also have a fabric one from Nicola Jane which is very comfortable.
I bought them both by mail order. Both companies happy to help with sizing and returns were easy. Look out for sales.

All best wishes for your appointment and treatment. I remember you from when I was having treatment in 19/20. Sorry to hear of your reaccurrence

  • Thanks Jojo.

I hope to go back to swimming I think that's what interested me initially in the Boost.

    I hope you are well.

Three times! What did I do?
