Feeling A Bit Overwhelmed Today!

Hi, Happy February!

I am feeling just a bit overwhelmed and upset with everything today.

I have tried to be positive (I am on my 2nd cancer roundabout - 1st was in 2013), however despite thinking that I have done this before and managed to sail through my op and radiotherapy.

Unfortunately this time I have 2 x cancers, one is grade 3 and has gone into my lymph nodes.

After allergic reactions to contrast dyes in scans my Consultant has delayed starting my treatment (he has started me on Anastrozole).

The Anastrozole is causing me problems by giving me hot, itchy, sweats, making me a bit confused and light headed.

I tried to do routine housework but I became sooo tired and ached all over!

Whilst I have tried so hard to put on a positive outlook but I feel absolutely shattered this morning with no enthusiasm to do anything!

  • I feel for you. I too had my first diagnosis in 2013 and my second in 2021, like you grade 3, in lymph nodes. I’m sorry you’re having a bad day, my advice? Give into it. Sod the house work. Give yourself a day off. Have a nice bath, then decide what you’re going to do with your day off. Walk? Read? Box set? Naughty food? Is there a good friend that will do something with you that you fancy? Give yourself space to be annoyed/sad/angry/feel sorry for yourself and regroup a little bit. Also, look into ‘spoons theory’ which I found very helpful to managing fatigue, I also found advice from an OT friend that I should do only an hours activity, followed by 15 mins, total rest (no scrolling, reading, watching tv, just sitting or lying down on sofa) really helpful when I was struggling with energy. This time is so draining in so many ways, don’t beat yourself up for needing to rest, all the best xx

  • Hi Rusty I agree with Anna sod the housework, it can wait.  I had breast cancer with op, chemo and radiotherapy in 2013 too.  In 2024 it came back now have stage 4 cancer.  I used to be so rigid with cleaning the house from top to bottom every Friday.  Now I really am not so bothered which feels liberating in a way Grin.  Anyway I hope that you get some relief from your symptoms soon.

  • I didn't need BC to say "Sod the house work". But I did use to do it in bigger chunks. Now if I'm that way inclined I do, either or, if I try the whole lot I pay for it the next day.

Today is a day for being kind to yourself. A walk round the block to spot the snowdrops would be ideal. The sun might even break through.

    Thank goodness January is over.

Three times! What did I do?

  • Hi - thank you all for your encouragement to scrap housework and chill!  I followed your advice and did absolutely nothing at all apart from cups tea / coffee.  I retreated to bed for an hour at lunchtime (felt dreadful) and went to bed for the night about 9.15 pm (usually 10.30 pm).  I slept right through and this morning I am trying to be positive and crack on (I am not really a sit and do nothing person).  Thank you all again, gentle hugs everybody xx
