Hello all. I would like to request a different breast care nurse but I'm unsure if this is even possible and if it is, who to contact?
I was diagnosed June of last year and am now coming to the end of my active treatment, meaning I'll be passed back to my breast care nurse. I've thought many times since about sending a complaint about her for many reasons, but haven't. It would take too long to go into it all, but her behaviour and treatment towards me has been shocking to say the least and I do not want to ever see her again. It would trigger me to have anxiety attacks to have to have an appointment with her.
I wanted to request someone (anyone) else months ago, but my husband was panicking that I would receive even worse treatment and I was awaiting surgery, so I didn't.
Has anyone changed their nurse? If so, how did you go about it? I'm based in Glasgow.
Hi , I haven't changed but I did have to raise my concerns about my wait time for my operation and the lack of information. I went to the PALS office. Patient advice and liaison services. In the hospital and they were a great help without causing a big fuss. Does your hospital have one of these?.
Hi MoonFern
I didn’t ask to change as such as my hospital seemed to work on a duty basis so it could be different ones calling back when I’d left a message (I had to contact them lots of times because of various extra tests/referrals and other stuff). One of the BCNs I found really frustrating as she was massively over protective and wouldn’t directly answer any of my questions. Another BCN told me information which was incorrect which frightened me and also meant I had no confidence in what she said after that. I raised my concerns directly with the breast care unit, but you could also go through PALS. After that I was allocated to one person who consistently called me back if needed. I have to say this nurse was wonderful and I never experienced any different treatment because I had raised concerns. x
I had a super BCN first time round, we were on the same wave length and she was lovely. But she got promoted!
I got allocated a dizzy one when I had a recurrence, who just gave me the impression she was always too busy to help. And I think she’s left, too.
I feel there is a gap between surgery and oncology sides in my hospital, a good BCN should bridge that gap. But they are always pushed and never attend clinics or voluntarily appear anywhere. Is that other folks’ experience too?
Hugs xxx
