Hello everyone,
I was diagnosed about 4 months ago with left breast cancer with bone metastases, HER2 positive.
I have completed a 6-cycle treatment with Phesgo, Docetaxel and Denosumab, and I am currently waiting for my oncology appointment on 16 February to be told what the next stage of my treatment will be.
My main difficulty is not the treatment itself, but the lack of continuity and communication.
I have only seen my main oncologist (Dr Tsalic) once. Since then, I have had a couple of appointments, but each time with a different doctor, which has left me feeling anxious and insecure. No one has really sat down with me to clearly explain the plan going forward or who is overseeing my care.
I am having my treatment at Solihull Hospital (Birmingham) and I am unsure whether changing hospitals or asking for a second opinion would make any difference, particularly in terms of communication and ongoing support.
If anyone has had a similar experience, Thank you for the guidance.
Hello Nafas96fef5
I am very sorry to hear of your diagnosis and for the lack of continuity you are experiencing.
I haven't had a similar experience, not am I from Birmingham, but have you been allocated a breast care nurse?
Can you contact her and voice your concerns? It might be that you can get the continuity you need by going via her?
Hopefully someone else can assist from your area / who's had similar experiences.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Hi Nafas I know what you mean. I have secondary breast cancer with bone mets. I normally see one oncologist. Two weeks ago I had an appointment and it was someone different. He never looked up when my husband and I walked into the room and didn't greet us. He had food down his top, I disliked him immediately. It really threw me seeing someone else and I hated it. I am going to phone the secretary and request I don't see that man again.
"I only had one session with the oncologist, and after waiting so long and preparing all my questions, the doctor was so tired and kept yawning that I completely forgot all my questions!"
I also have Breast Cancer, Also Matatasized with Tumors that were in my Neck. But Im lucky to have a great Oncologist that I see religiously every single Month. And Touch wood I am In remission now Cancer free due to ongoing treatments and Radiotherapy. It is so important that you see the the Same Oncologist, not just for your Cancer, but your mental health, I started to get bad Anxiety and my Oncologist even offered me help for that as well. I personally think if your Oncologist is No show then you should change him for some one that shows genuine concern and empathy for your situation, you have the rights to do this. It is so important to see your own Oncologist all the times it gives you peace of mind and Positivity going forward. I would Change your Oncologist as to me he is not showing or giving you the Care you desperately need.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
