Scalp cooling and reoccurrence

Hello,

Hope you're well. I have stage 2 triple negative breast cancer with no apparent lymph node involvement. Since I began chemotherapy, I have been cold capping and had good success. Now I am terrified that it was the wrong choice. That those microsiphic cancer cells could be hiding in my hair follicules and double my chances of reoccurrence, especially somewhere close to it like the brain.

I'm getting myself in such a state over this. Does anyone have any info please?

Thanks so much

  • Hi Emma

I also did scalp cooling but for endometrial cancer in 2022.

I am glad that you are having a good experience with scalp cooling.

I understand your worries and scalp cooling is not suitable for certain cancers- notably blood cancers etc. I was told by my oncologist that is is safe for solid tumours and that it would not have been suggested if it had not been suitable for my type of cancer.

Why not have a word with you cancer nurse or alternatively give the Macmillan support line a call and talk to one of our nurses. Hopefully they can reassure you.

Paxman also have a website that may also give some reassurance.

I wish you well for the rest of your treatment and hope that the scalp cooling continues to work for you. Mine meant some healthy regrowth shortly after finishing chemo.

    Jane
