Waiting on biopsy results

nitial diagnosis TN breast cancer Sept 2021. Then 2024 diagnosed with incurable metastatic TN breast cancer & underwent palliative chemotherapy. I have surveillance scans every 3 months. Fast forwad to now, found a new lump in groin lymph nodes. Oncologist referred me for ultrasound to check lump. Ultrasound showed enlarged suspicious lymph node so had 3 biopsy’s taken. I had a telephone appontment booked in with my Oncologist for 6th Feb for a “check in” appointment. He rung me yesterday to say he’s seen my ultrasound report & wanted to book me on for a face to face appointment insteadof telephone appointment. Also said my biopsy results will be back before my appointment. Has something bad been reported on my ultrasound that warrants a face to face instead of a telephone appointent? I just keep thinking that the cancer has spread & he wants to give me the news face to face instead of over the phone. My thoughts are in over drive just now & I’m really struggling with it all

  • I am so sorry to read your post, waiting and wondering is so difficult and stressful.  You might think about giving the lovely people at the Macmillan chatline a call. They are great to listen, help and provide advice.  You can reach them 8am to 8pm every day on 0800 808 0000. Best wishes

  • Hi there

So sorry to read this. I had the experience of having a telephone appointment arranged for my initial breast lump biopsy results then it being changed to a face-to-face appointment without them giving a reason and the anxiety that created was immense. I'd honestly prefer to just receive the gist of what they're going to say over the phone first then attend the face-to-face to discuss further. I realise they might not be able to do that for confidentiality reasons, but yes, the wondering is an awful thing to have to deal with.

Wishing you the best of luck for your appointment x
