hi everyone. I hope you’ve all had a lovely Christmas.
I had a couple of questions. Firstly I have finished chemo and had 10 rounds of radiotherapy. I am now on 3 weekly herceptin injections for the next year. I have tingling in the tips of my fingers and nails and my nails have become discoloured and very sore if I knock them. Has anyone actually lost their nails or is there anything you can recommend to try to protect them?
Also on a more embarrassing note - since chemo I seemed to have experienced loss of control of my bowels which is extremely embarrassing but wondered if it was common. Nurses don’t seem to have an answer for me.
Please use the Macmillan line to talk to the experienced nurses about the problems as they may well have some ideas for you! (0808 808 0000)
I’m sure there are folk with chemo nail experience on here who can give you some ideas too.
My experience is with Abemaciclib nails, ridges and flakiness are the problems from that drug.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your nails. I think you need to be getting in touch with your oncologist or BC nurse. Tingling in fingers is a bit of a worry along with your nails being painful. These things seem small at the time but they can have long term consequences.
I am still supporting my acrylic nails. I feel about those like other people feel about their hair. I had a new set out on at the beginning of chemo but used the clear acrylic. I had the idea I would be able to see any issues. The nurse going through my introduction said as long as I watched them carefully they were fine. They would be off at the first sign of trouble but do far so good.
As for caring for nails my mum of 94 swears by Nail Envy by OPI. She's got better nails than me and hers are not supported by lumps of plastic.
These things are the type of things they don't talk about on soaps and in films. The stuff people don't know about when the big stuff has finished.
P.s I haven't had full control since I had the kids and not just " a little bit of wee". Something else you need to be telling your oncologist and or BC nurse.
Take care. Hugs.
Three times! What did I do?
Thank you for replying. I have told lots of the medical team but they all say it’s ’normal!’ I couldn’t think of anything less normal!!
And as for the second question - unfortunately it’s the other end I have the issues with ♀️
