Hi
I was diagnosed in Jan 2023, had two lumpectomy and axillary lymph nodes removed, six months chemotherapy and 10 rounds of radiotherapy. Since two years I have been on tamoxfine.
My oncologist wants to put me on letrozole and have zometo.
I have issues with my gums and my dentist also scared me about zometo as it has serious side effects on gums.
Not sure if I should have zometo because of gum problems.
Has anyone had gum problem and had zometo, what was your experience on side effects, did it cause any further issues with teeth or osperiosis of the teeth.
Hello Orange1
Sorry to hear of your worries / gum problems. I can't answer your query as I didn't take zometo.
However, as it's the Christmas period, there's been less women around on the forum, so I am answering to bump your post back to first page in the hope that someone's around who can help you now.
Kindest wishes, Lesley
Hi
I’m on Zoledronic Acid. I started a year ago. Every 6 weeks for the first few months and now every 6 months. I had my most recent one yesterday - New Year’s Eve!
I had to have my teeth checked before I started and keep up at least 6 monthly appointments with him but I’ve had no trouble whatsoever. I understand the osteonecrosis to the jaw is an extremely rare side effect. My dentist who’s been in practice for around 30 years said he had never seen a case
After the first infusion I was a bit unwell for a day with a high temperature which was a bit scary as I was on chemo as well at that time but since then I’ve not any side-effects
I’d speak to your oncologist again. They should be able to explain the benefits and the risks and what they recommend.
Good luck
Hi, I’ve just had my 6th and final Zometa infusion a day ago and now 30 hrs later I’m having the aches and headache that it’s caused every time, but I have found these should be wearing off by the end of tomorrow.
Over the last 3 years I’ve had more regular dental check ups, as I do have a couple of areas of receding gums and also some root fillings, but the dentist has said I’ve been ok for the treatment. I’m certainly hoping that this last infusion won’t set anything off!
It’s been a bit of a drag having this aching, but manageable. I’ve known to allow for not doing anything special but going out a bit and resting a bit as I choose for a couple of days.
All the best xx
