Evening all,
I’m taking letrozole and alendronic plus Adcal. Just had my yr 3 mammogram and anxiously awaiting the results.
my joint pain has been tolerable so far, but these last few weeks the pain is much worse in my knees and ankles.
i’m wondering if I should speak to the gp, will they only suggest stopping the letrozole. Anyone else been down this road?
I really want to continue for 10 years, my bone density has remained the same because of the alendronic acid, but the pain is pretty bad at times.
Also has anyone had a knee replacement while on alendronic ?
if only they would release the stats for recurrence so we can make informed decisions.
Hello Gardinia
Joint pain is a regular side effect with letrozole - but try different brands of letrozole as they often have different coatings and the coatings can also be a massive cause of joint pain.
Same with Anastrozole, which I was on - I got given a different brand once and after looking up the coatings and seeing it was a lot different, I made sure I didn't have that brand again! I was okay with Accord and Tiva, but the different brand made me feel like I'd been hit by a truck.
They do have an NHS predict tool for breast cancer, which you can taylor to your own diagnosis, which I'm sure you'll find useful to see if you want to continue with letrozole. But, firstly before coming off them, try the different brands to see if they make a difference for you / they can also suggest some other tablet, (exemestane I think, but I gather it's expensive from what I've read on here - I might be wrong on this, it's just from memory of what I've read here).
Kindest wishes,
Lesley
