Hi all,
I had my first of five radiotherapy sessions yesterday, and since then I’ve been experiencing pain in my reconstructed breast. For those who have completed a course of five radiotherapy sessions, could you share what side effects or challenges you faced during the treatment and after it was finished?
Thanks
Recon
I had my first of 15 and mine is sore and lumpy already I think it’s normal .. did your arms go numb ? X
Hi
I had 5 radiotherapy 1-5 September, the 4 targeted radiotherapy 8-11 September after a lumpectomy in July. At the time I had no issues, but now I get sharp pains in breast and underarm which I am told is just the nerves healing. My breast and underarm area was totally numb for weeks after treatment.
I still have swelling both under arm and breast but the pains are getting less and less.
I think it just all takes time to settle down. I have only used 4 of the 28 Dihydrocideine I was given so I suppose it’s more uncomfortable than sore.
I still use loads of zerobase moisturiser every night which def helps as I’ve had no issues with my skin or scar.
you will get there it’s just takes longer than I thought.
take care
Hi, I don't feel any numbness as of now. I am being given radiotherapy only to the chest wall.
Hi, I had 5 sessions to one breast early in August. The tiredness was the biggest factor afterwards. I found that different areas of my boob were a bit sore for a while and then it would move to another area. I guess its just the healing process. In bed is where I felt it most, but I have DD boobs, and they get in the way on a night anyway lol.
A bit after pinkness, but I religiously used 2 tubes of flamogel that the hospital gave me and then i bought organic aloe vera gel ( about £5 per tube from ebay). I used it 3 x per day at first, then reduced it to twice after about 6 weeks or so, and have only just started using it once per day. I have had no issues. It's really cooling if you keep it in the fridge.
