Flashbacks/ strange feelings

Hi everyone.
Hope you’re all keeping as well as possible.

I just wondered if anyone else is experiencing the same strange feelings and flashbacks that have been happening since I went on Letrezole? I feel like I’m going mad, I can’t explain them very well, all I can say is that it can be a smell, a voice, an action, anything really that sets it off. The flashbacks are not violent or anything, they are just really familiar to me and my brain won’t connect to what they actually are. When they happen, my legs tremble, stomach churns and I feel really nauseous.
GP gave me Sertraline, which helped for a few weeks then they return and he increases the dose. Not sure what it is, it could be how much they are messing with my hormones atm? Who knows. Just feel really stupid because I can’t really explain it.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Thank you, sending best wishes to you all

xx

  • Hi, Sorry you are experiencing this. I am on Anastrozole. My situation is not quite the same, but I am three years post cancer treatment and I find that I often wake up with a fight or flight response, especially if facing a stressful situation or problem that day. I had no emotions during treatment. Apparently it is quite common for your emotions to come back quite strongly and your brain to try and process what has happened. Have you chatted to the nurses here at MacMillan? I have found them really helpful. I hope you start to feel better soon.

  • Hi Hilfe22

Thank you so much for your response. I haven’t spoken to the MacMillan nurses, would that be a telephone call or face to face? I’m unsure. I’ve not heard of anyone else having these flashbacks, however I have heard about people who have had the fight or flight feelings and panic attack. Apparently it’s a response to PTSD which is what they say a cancer survivor can often get.

Hope you’re keeping well and thanks again for your response

    Diane
