Hello lovely people. I'm back in the UK now after my diagnosis and surgery in the Philippines. I'm 15 months post surgery and I'm now hooked into the NHS. I'm finding it really good, but it's different to come into the system afterwards, meeting people, finding out what happens here, how it happens, what I need, what I'm entitled to and what the journey will look like now and all those things. I've been here nearly four months and it took some time to get a breast care nurse. I found that having a named person and a number meant I had someone who could answer all my questions and help signpost me. I love Macmillan too, I've found the forum and the support line invaluable and I've used them sooooooo much. The hardest part of this journey is my abdomen - I knew it would be a long recovery but the pain and tension and tightness and aches is ongoing. I still have to rest and be horizontal after a long day out. Some days are better than others, but some are so bad. I'm trying to work out if it's the surgery - a problem, the plastics team here are in that camp. I'm trying to work out if it's food and how much I eat - hoping to get nutrition and dietary advice, and I'm trying to eat as healthily as I can as well as factoring menopausal symptoms. I did the cancer society November 10km swim challenge, swimming is good, but it does hurt if I overdo it, it's also fo expensive for this unemployed girlie to be sustainable. Those referrals are still pending. I'm writing this because today is a bad day. I'm so sore and it's impossible to do anything. I'm just resting and wondering if I should be taking pain killers, I try not to as I'd need a lot.
Hi Jinty
cant help you with tramflap pain. However can help with pain.
Pain is mind altering ie can lead to depression.
Pain causes tension in muscles which leads to more pain.
Pain stops living.
Take the painkillers, moving people heal quicker. Hospitals don’t like you to be in Pain. See GP you are entitled to free prescriptions.
I have arthritis and loved Aquafit and the gentler Aquamed rather than length swimming much more fun. Local authority did a monthly pass at about £22. I did three classes a week , bargin. They also did a class specially for Cancer patients. You can get a referral from Gp for 12 free classes. Both well worth looking for.
I can’t have tramflap. My BmI is too high. Good luck
Three times! What did I do?
Thanks Silverberg
I might have to go down the route of painkillers, but definitely through a Dr so I can the right ones. I am meant to be getting a social prescription for cheaper membership which would allow me to go to different classes. I will chase that up.
Thanks again.
