Hi everyone. Last chemo was 4th Aug. I lost a lot of my hair despite cold capping. Nevertheless it is what it is and it’s a small price to pay to still be alive.
My hair has grown all over now, no bald patches however the length is very short and so slow growing I feel. The length is only about 1 cm which is disheartening 3 months on. I figured if I can just get some length on it I can have extensions or mesh integration.
Does anyone have any tips on speeding up growth or is this normal? Sorry for the tmi but I need to tell you that down below is getting a lot of length on so why is my head hair not the same. I thought cold capping sped up hair growth. I use a thickening hair mask and a caffeine hair serum (which says 4 drops which I’ve turned into chucking loads on!!).
Hi Sparkle
It can feel like hair regrowth is taking ages.
I did not lose all my hair after scalp cooling but was on a different regime to yours.
I believe your chemo included EC and that can be quite harsh for hair loss from my understanding.
I found post chemo that body hair seemed to come in all of a sudden and then the hair growth on my head really kicked in. My hair thinned all over during chemo and about 2 months post chemo I had hair of all different lengths. My last chemo was August 2022 and I would say it was around Christmas that I started to look and feel more like me.
In my experience there is nothing that could help stimulate hair growth however regular conditioning helped prevent further breakage. The hair I had left after chemo was more brittle. I continued to do the same hair care as I did during scalp cooling for a few months. General health is important and it may be worth asking for a routine blood test to check your iron levels etc to make sure you are not anaemic etc.
I also found looking in the mirror each day didn't really help as there never seemed much change however taking a photo once a week from the front, side and back- it really showed the progress.
