I’m coming up for what I thought would be my second year check up as I had breast cancer September 2023 when I was 47. I found the lump and mammograms didn’t show it it was confirmed in MRI and obv biopsy. My first annual check I received MRA, mammogram and appt at clinic.
I hadnt received appointments through for my check this year and called only to be told there there will be a virtual appointment that I won’t be at. To say I’m now terrified is an understatement. I know I can call clinic if I have any concerns but for my sanity that’s just not enough. I’m in Glasgow, has anyone found the same issue?
Hello angy pangy I’m in Dumbarton. My experience Surgery and radio therapy and aromatise inhibitors. Next visit was to the ongoing care clinic ,examination with a totally different Dr. chat re what happened next. Will have a mamogram annually for Five years and a letter will be sent out giving you results . Manmmogram usually in the same month that you were diagnosed in and the letter with results can take up to a month to arrive but of course they will contact you directly if there is any thing they are not happy with. If you have anything that you are worried about you can contact your breast care nurse and if she can’t give you answers she will contact your oncologist and make an appointment to see them . I know this as the twice l contacted her this is what happened. After your fifth year mamograms you will have another visit to the ongoing care clinic which will be your last contact and there after you will monitor yourself and see your gp if worried . Could I say you have gone a long way in looking after yourself by being part of this community. Have a look around and learn as much as you can from it not google. We are all anxious when we step on this merrygoround but the more correct information we have the more we get to cope. Good luck dizzy di
Hi, I'm totally with you. The reassurance of having someone else check at the annual appointment is critical to me and virtual makes no sense. Can you call the clinic and ask for a face to face appointment? Failing that, can you talk to your GP about this? I'm not sure what else to advice but others on here might have better ideas or experience of this. Best wishes
Hello
My experience ranges over 17 years. The first one we were checked every 3 months alternating surgeon and Oncologist. Then each year it reduced till it stopped at Year 5. Yearly mammograms then went to 3 years. At year 5 I had mental breakdown thanks to work stress and tamoxifen. And the lie I would be cured which I took to mean back to pre cancer health. Bx££s&@t.
Ten years later they waved bye after 8 months. Apart from lymphadema clinic and yearly mammograms.
This time I don’t know but considering I have a lymph gland affected from last time, totally missed by mammograms I think they might extend my care. I’ll be stamping my feet if they don’t.
You can always ring breast care nurses who point you in the right direction. Keep asking till you are happy.
Three times! What did I do?
