I have just finished my 3 cycles of EC and everything has been going well with bloods and side effects minimal etc. I am meant to be starting my Docetaxel on Monday 17th Nov and I am having 3 of these 3 weeks apart.
I had my bloods done yesterday (Friday) and they called me to say they were too low to proceed (at 0.73). After my 2nd cycle they were 1.27. I am going to the hospital again tomorrow for more bloods in the hope they have gone up. Has anyone else had this and what happened if they weren't at the required levels - did you get delayed a week?
I am trying to rest and eat healthy - lot of protein and water etc.
Thanks.
Hi ACharge80
My bloods weren't right a few days before I was due to start EC so my start date was delayed by a week.
Hi
my neutrophils we’re too low after my second EC, so my third got delayed. Have you had any filgrastim injections? I wasn’t given any at all,but when I was switched to docetaxel I had to do them for 7 days for each of the 3 chemos.
No i was never given filstagram injections for EC.
They said I need 1 injection the day after docetaxel for all 3...everyone seems to have different it's weird.
How long was your chemo delayed for?
I had to inject filgrastim for the first 7 days of each cycle of EC.
Just a week. The filgrastim did its job and my levels went high before settling down. It’s strange that the trusts do things differently. I had 7 days of steroids when on EC. Then 7 filgrastim on docetaxel. The other problem I had was that the filgrastim caused a temperature spike…..that’s another story entirely!!
If you’re prescribed Filgrastim, ask about taking Claritin, start it before you use the jabs (a day or so) and although an antihistamine it helps with the bone aches. It’s used much more widely in the USA than here.

I had 3 days of steroidsnin EC. It is weird how different they do things...
