Hi. Looking for advice. So my latest chemo side effect is sore hands. Red, hot , itchy. Anyone had the same and is there anything you can recommend to treat? X

  • Are you having a Taxotere at present?

If you are the effects you're describing often come with it. Just phone your BCN if they are the same tomorrow and describe this. It could be the beginning of neuropathy.....your feet could respond the same way too.....and you must always tell someone medical if these symptoms develop as they can cause damage very quickly without medication.

I'm sure your hands will feel better in the morning as most reactions like this go as quickly as they started but don't ignore them if they don't.

  • No. I’m on docetaxel  and herceptin. I’ve just had my fifth treatment. It started a few days after chemo but I’ve now had to take off all my rings coz in between my fingers is all red and it feels a bit like hives. Gets worse when they’re hot.

  • Docetaxel is the same drug family as Taxotere. I think I would definitely mention this reaction to someone today. I had similar problems with my hands and feet red, burning and skin peeling as doses increased. I thought this was normal ...just something like the nausea you had to put up with. .. it can be a dangerous reaction but I thought I'd be making a fuss.

Sadly mine got worse. The nerves in my feet were totally destroyed and partial in my hands. I sort help too late but you can take gabapentine much sooner than I did if it's necessary. Great if it's not a lasting problem.....important to treat early if it is. Ten years on I still have to take drugs for the neuropathy, see the neurologist every six months and have pains and aches in my feet and legs because I did nothing about the reaction until my feet were so sore, I couldn't walk. As for the hands ...I constantly drop things and have little grip.

Let us know how you progress. Hopefully it will subside soon. Love Karen
