Has anyone here had an appointment with their oncologist in the middle of chemotherapy?
I had a single mastectomy for hormone receptor–positive breast cancer in July and started chemotherapy in August. I’m scheduled for 8 sessions in total, and my oncologist has set up an appointment with me after the 4th session.
I’m not sure what the purpose of this appointment is, or what kinds of questions I should prepare to ask. If anyone has gone through a similar experience, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your stories.
Hi Recon
I've got three months of chemo plus another three month of immunotherapy. So far I've had two lots. I'm seeing my oncologist next week after what is one cycle. I'm assuming she just wants to see how I'm getting on. Literally just checking things are going to plan and that no problems have occurred.
No preparation needed.
Three times! What did I do?
Same ive got an appointment halfway through, im wondering if its to discuss and book radiotherapy (been told theres a 3 month backlog) so timing might work out?
Mines not for radiotherapy booking. I've already had that on both sides . I can't have anymore.
Three times! What did I do?
It will be just to check how you are getting on and your next course of treatment, medications, injections etc. that’s what mine was about.
Oh. So is this the time we are booked for Radiotherapy as well ?
Hi Recon
I am currently half way through chemotherapy for estrogen strong her2 negative BC.
I have seen my oncologist a couple of times and it is usually just to check in, see how you are doing and answer any questions you may have.
Would definitely recommended writing down any questions you may have as you think of them before the appointment.
big hugs
Hi Miss Cheesec06e90,
That’s really helpful, and I’ll definitely start noting down my questions as they come to mind before my next appointment. Big hugs back to you
Hi Recon,
My daughter saw her oncologist before every third chemo session. She kept notes of the things she wanted to ask him about, mainly chemo side effects. He was excellent, prescribing different meds to help with nausea, mouth ulcers, thrush and various other issues. She was also happy to ask him about exercise, work and anything else that was worrying her.
Best wishes for successful treatment.
