Hi everyone. I’m very upset and disappointed that I’m still losing hair some nearly 7 weeks post chemo. I haven’t got much left anyway but really thought it’d stop shedding by now but there is loads on the towel when I dry it
Just wondered if anyone else experienced this? I am taking letrozole and had my first zoladex injection last week so not sure if that has affected it.
Hi Sparkle498uk,
I'm so sorry to hear you're still experiencing hair loss after finishing chemo. It's completely understandable that you're feeling upset and disappointed, especially when you were hoping the shedding would have stopped by now.
I haven't completed my chemo sessions yet, so I don't have firsthand experience with what hair regrowth is like post-treatment. However, I can definitely relate to the frustration of hair loss. I actually started losing hair even before my chemo began, about two weeks after my mastectomy. At the time, I was on letrozole and couldn't tell if it was the anesthesia or the medication causing it.
Once chemo started, the hair loss got much worse. It came out in clumps, and I had a lot of scalp pain from the thinning hair, especially after my second session. I eventually got so fed up that I just stopped combing my hair and decided to shave my head.
I'm glad to hear you were able to keep some of your hair through treatment. It sounds like you've been through so much already, and this is just another difficult hurdle. I hope the shedding slows down for you soon.
Thank you and sorry to hear about your hair loss. I did actually cold cap but you’d never think so looking at my hair!
I hope your treatment goes well xx
Hey! I’m in same boat. So annoying finished chemo 8 weeks ago, cold capped whole way through and only lost most of my hair in the last few weeks of chemo. Although at the same time ive had alot of regrowth since finishing so ive got this horrible scarecrow like mullet haha I’m not on any medication so cant say if its the meds effecting you
Hi,
I had chemo 2021-22 and used the cold cap. I kept most of my hair during treatment but kept shedding for about 10-12 weeks after. I went back to work with really thin wispy bits of long hair and spiky new growth. I just pretended to myself that I had normal hair and carried on regardless. I have my normal hair now but I don’t think I realised that the hair loss after treatment was a thing.
Gillie x
Yes same. I kind of expected it to not shed at all by now. Ah well. I am happy enough in my wig for now.
Hi Sparkle
I'm sorry that you are in this position.
I lost all of my hair during chemo last year. I didn't do the cold cap as after all the research and talking to people, watching someone have it put on, I decided there was no benefit and just take the hit so to speak.
My hair started to fall out after the 1st treatment of EC in October but started to grow back when I started Paclitaxol in December last year. I finished chemo in January this year.
I take hair vitamin gummies daily that were recommended and seem to be working. It is now soft and my curls are coming back (looks like sheep's wool on my head lol ). I also use Pantene grow strong shampoo and conditioner every other day and I'm scared my hair may still be brittle and weak and fall out.
I wish you all the best
Thanks so much for commenting. I might try hair gummies, I know hair burst are supposed to be good.
I did cold cap, I had my treatment other way round to you, weekly paclitaxal first and I hardly lost any but then I did 3 EC’s and most of it fell out in the second session, so traumatic but I’ve come to terms with it now. Last session was 4th Aug. I have noticed some bits growing back at the sides, I could hardly see it because it is so grey!
I’m glad yours is growing nicely now.
