Hi all,
I had a right side total mastectomy with TAD on 30/8. I saw my surgeon on Monday for dressing removal and aspiration of a Seroma. The wound site has healed well, but I’m struggling with what to wear as everything is rubbing the scar and causing itching and pain. Can anyone recommend a comfortable daytime and nighttime bra? I have a front fastening post surgery bra from M&S, but it’s hugely irritating. I find that everything keeps riding up and it’s difficult to line up the softie I’ve been given with my remaining boob (which at the age of 50 isn’t quite as pert as it used to be)! I’m a 36E so I do need some support (in more ways than one)!
Thank you x
Hi This is always tricky. I looked at M&S as this was what the BCN suggested. However at Guy's hospital they had a shop and the Amoena brand were sold. I opted for buy them. They are super comfortable. I had a double mastectomy and so did need a softy. Obviously there are pockets for them.
They are front opening.
On this site other brands have bee recommend.
Good luck
Hi, I feel your pain, so frustrating. M&S has some decent crop tops and I, at 36G even, use those around the house and in bed for extra support. I also found some big soft bras in M&S, non wired and plain (I usually wear their boxed styles with a little embroidered pattern) and these are much more comfortable. Hope this helps, best wishes
Thank you! I will have to have another look online. I live in Cornwall and the selection in store here is very limited.
Sending you best wishes x
I've discovered the word chemo and Breast Cancer have very similar effects on prices as Wedding. I've been looking at turbans. The ones with chemo in front go up to £30 and more. The hajib in and African cultural turbans are half the price and feel much more substantial.
Matalan and Primark do post surgery bras too. Putting them over the thin vests works well.
Three times! What did I do?
Oh Silverberg, three times? That’s awful. I’m so sorry.
You are so right, I’ve had exactly the same thoughts, it does seem to have become quite a market doesn’t it.
I’ve been looking at the George at Asda post surgery bras. They’re a lot more reasonable. I’ll update my post (if I can work out how) when I’ve actually tested them. Wishing you all the best x
Anij, I know which bra you mean from m and s with the embroidery it is actually the biggest selling bra they do.
If that's a good shape for the remaining breast, what about getting a needle and thread out and making a pocket in the correct place for the other side. I would use an old pair of my microfiber knicrs for the material. They are soft and have a bit of give. You could double the fabric to give some protection. Just don't stick a pin through your prosthetic.
Good luck.
Three times! What did I do?
I can’t even sew a button on!
Thank you for the idea though. The nerve pain is actually a little better today, it’s just the feeling of having a squash ball wedged under your armpit that’s getting me down. Still, it could be worse! Three times is just incomprehensible. What type do you have if you don’t mind me asking? Xx
