Hair growth

Sorry another hair post from me.

Next Monday will be 4 weeks since end of chemo. All my lashes and brows have grown back but nothing at all on my head and when I put my fingers through the little bit of hair on my head left loads came out.

This is really making me sad, when will the hair shedding stop and new growth start? I can’t look at myself without my wig on. Online seems to say 6 weeks so maybe I just need to be patient.

  • I had one dose of chemo pre a breast lumpectomy in August 2024.  I reacted extremely badly to the chemo, so I did not have any more.  My hair fell out just one week after the chemo. I didn’t use a wig.  It didn’t start growing again until Christmas 2024.  However, I have to say that my hair has been the most joyful and amusing part of my treatment. After having thin, fine, poker-straight hair for 78 years, my hair  grew back shiny and curly! I am told that it will, almost certainly, go straight again, but eight months later, it is still curly.  I do hope it lasts because it is so easy to maintain. No fancy products, styling or drying required!
So, do not despair, your hair may get going again eventually - and it may surprise you!

  • Thanks so much for replying. My last session was 4th Aug so maybe like you it will be December that it starts coming in.

My hair was very dry and damaged previously so maybe this is a blessing in disguise and I’ll get much nicer hair next, let’s hope so.

  • Hi, I think you might just need to wait a bit longer. I had mine shaved to a couple of mm and it was really just fluff. Looking back at photos it started coming back really strongly 7 to 8 weeks after my last chemo - and it’s really come back with a vengeance. It’s extremely thick now.

You should have a good covering by the time it starts getting cooler!

    Good luck

  • Thanks so much this gives me hope that yours came back so well.
