Feeling positive today

Hi all,

Today I woke up feeling really positive, maybe it was the 9 hours sleep or the fact the side effects of 3rd cycle of EC chemo are lesser today, so I decided to focus on the good stuff today. It is so easy to focus on all the negatives of having cancer and years ago I would have gone to a dark place mentally but I've worked on my resilience and have surprised myself with how I'm dealing with everything.

I made a pledge to myself earlier in the year to look for the silver lining so here I go.....

I may be losing my hair but I'm using less shampoo etc and don't need to shave my armpits anymore!

I am sleeping better, was an issue previously.

I have had to be more adventurous with my hair.

I don't worry about the small stuff anymore, my priorities have shifted.

My hubby got us national trust membership.

I've become closer to friends and family.

I am enjoying life Relieved.

Take care x

  • I love this post

It's so true but harder to focus on positives sometimes when your life has completely changed.

I had a tooth extraction yesterday in readiness for chemo in September.  I will be having 3 EC and 3 Docetaxel. I've been feeling a bit sorry for myself this morning sipping sterilised water and not eating etc. Your post has cheered me up.

We need to think about why we are having these treatments and all the people that are worse off than us.....there are so many people.so much worse and I'm not talking about cancer.

There are a lot of negative posts on here which is understandable given the nature of the site, but we do need to read more positive posts. Thank you!

Well done for getting to the 3rd cycle.  How many more do you have to go?.

My silver lining has been spending the whole summer with my 10 year old daughter.  I would never normally get to do that and I am lucky I get full sick pay for 12 months. We have become even closer and its been good quality time.

Take care and keep being adventurous with your hair!

  • Thankyou for your reply.

full pay….that is amazing and one less thing to worry about.

spending time with your daughter is so special , something you will both remember.

hope the tooth extraction isn’t too horrible.

I’m having another 3 more cycles but switching to THP treatment for that, the aggressive tumour I have started to respond after just 1 EC treatment and after the 2nd the oncologist estimated it had halved in size so I hope you are as lucky.

good luck and look after yourself.

  • Mine is her2 negative so I have had surgery first (2 x as didn't get clear margins). I get results on Wednesday next week so hopefully it will be ok and then I will start the chemo process..

  • This is exactly same as me and same day for results omg. Positive synchronisation. Hahaha good luck for Wednesday Smile

  • Thank you Sarah for your positivity.

I am totally new to all this and just joined the forum. I was diagnosed in May, lumpectomy in June and start chemotherapy next week. I'm not a forum kinda girl but my friend said it helped her.

I am lucky that I have a really good group of friends including someone that has had chemotherapy for a different cancer and we had a great day yesterday....felt the love and positive vibes, actually had an ok (relatively speaking) nights sleep, have exercised and looking forward to a sunny day, and just one comment re the aggressive nature of my cancer type...grade 3 triple negative has just blown all of that.

I'm having 4 cycles each of EC and for paclitaxel (every 2 weeks). They said they would be as  aggressive as I am young (ish) and fit.

    Your comment really helped.

My positive thought ...my bowel screening came back negative!

  • You too.  Have you been told you need chemo and radio amongst other drugs?

  • This is amazing, thank you. My silver lining is not being at work in this weather, and I had my hair cut ready for chemo but also so I could wash it with one hand after having lynth nodes removed and I really love having short hair hahaha. Love to you all.

  • Yes I was advised I would be getting it all at my results appointment after my first surgery. My positive goal is hopefully they will say that my level 3 nodes are clear of cancer and they got it all with the 2nd operation. They have done a full lymph node clearance. After my next results day they advised it will be 4-6 weeks later that I get to see my oncologist and start chemo but don't know what type or how long till then. Another positive is I have been doing my arm exercises and can still get my arm above my head. Yeah. What dose your plan looks like so far?
