I had a margins revision and Level 2 nodes removal last Tuesday and woke up with a drain in my breast. Omg the pain is awful under my arm n where the drain comes out. The district nurses have said this is completely normal. Anyone else had the same issue and any advice please. Xx

  • Hi

Sorry to hear you're in pain..did you have a Wide local reincision?

I had my original op 6 weeks ago to remove 4cm.tumor and 3 lymph nodes. Luckily I got away quite lightly from this op with very minimal pain and just some swelling and liquid build up that wasn't painful.

I had a reincision for margins 10 days ago and even when I woke up after theatre I could feel quite moderate pain...which I was surprised at. I took paracetamol every 4 hours to get it under control for a few days then it stopped.

Friday night (8 days after surgery) I started to feel significant pain again and pain relief wasn't working. I took some codine in the end but that didn't even make much difference. There is no redness so I decided not to go to A and E and I am holding off til Monday to phone the breast care team. Its hard though isn't it?.

I think try strong pain killers.if you can and try not to do much...rest up and ride it out. I'm sure it will improve.

    Sending strength and hugs.

  • I had a bilateral mammoplasty with reduction on both sides. This was perfectly fine and very minimal pain tbh. They found a small cancer deposit in one lymph node and needed to go back in for a better margin. They also tried a level 2 lymph node removal . The pain is much worse than my first op and my arm feels really heavy and stiff x

  • Yes I did. I was advised to massage the area with E45 and also massage different materials over the area.  It stimulated the nerve cells.

It will subside and in the meantime pain relief helps.
