Hi everybody,

I'm starting treatment next week: (Atezolizumab & nab-paclitaxel.) for stage 4 breast cancer - triple negative.  I'd really appreciate any advice about preparing for treatment, things to take with me, clothing to wear etc. or just general lifestyle advice !! ?

  • Wear easy, comfortable clothes, something you can sit comfortably in for some time.  Need easy access to your Picc line or port if you have one, or to arm for cannula. Jogging bottoms are ideal, you don't need anything fiddly if you need the bathroom while on a drip.

Wear layers, the rooms are often very air conditioned and you can get chilly. Some people take fluffy socks and a blanket but daughter was always provided with pillow and blanket.

Take snacks, it can be several hours. A trolley always came round with hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, biscuits, etc, but it's nice to have things you especially like.

Take something to do ... book you're reading, magazine, puzzle book, games on phone.

Best of luck with your treatment. xxx

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to reply.  xx

  • I would also think about whether you want to cold cap.  I did but it is an individual discussion. At Guy's they had chairs which you could warm!! Wonderful. Worth discussion a Picc Line with your team as well.

    All the best

  • Thank you.  This has been so helpful & I'll refer back to it regularly.

  • Thank you but I've been told cold cap is a probable no due to migraine history.  I will ask about the Picc line though.  xx
