Hi everyone
I was recently diagnosed with above. My next appt is 1 September. I have been a T1 diabetic for 60 years. My control is not good and I was asked whether I would consider an insulin pump. I initially said no. I was still reeling from the shock of having cancer. However I have looked into it and perhaps a pump will help with my control. Has anyone out there got any advice for me on this please or should I wait until my treatment starts?
Hi Dippy welcome to the forum. My best friend is a type 1 diabetic and she has been fitted with her pump for 2 years and feels that it makes a huge difference to her diabetic control particularly overnight. She feels so much better having had this done. I'm not sure about before or after the surgery for this to be fitted but the diabetic team who have recommended this will be the best to ask. I expect it may make a difference if the monitor is fitted to your arm on the operated breast side hence why it's best to have the chat with them. We are here for you as you need us to be so feel free to keep chatting. Best wishes Gail x
Hi Gail
Thanks for your reply! I’m waiting for my diabetes specialist to call me back so I can make an appointment to look into having a pump. Makes sense to have it on the opposite side of my cancer. I’m not sure how long it takes to get set up with one but I’m pleased it helped your friend. I’ll keep you updated
