Hello
Am starting chemo next week. When I saw oncologist he said that I need to get a thermometer - so can monitor at home. He explained that if temp goes above 37.5 - then it's a trip to a & e. Would need to tell them 'chemo / fever' - which should result in being given antibiotics without delay.
Am yet to get thermometer... but am worried I will get obsessive with checking that temperature.... I know what I'm like !!. Can I ask how people monitor their temp - as in do you just check at certain times? feel free to tell me to get a grip!
Of course no one can predict - but I wonder how common it is that a&e trip is needed?
Any advice welcome!

Hi I usually do my temp morning and night , but I know what you mean I became really obsessive with it one day , it just freaked me out I suffer with OCD I think that took over with the temp .. but I’ve calmed down with it if I feel like I’m hot then I also do it , I think when you start chemo they tell you keep a check on your temp , so of course you do .. but morning and evening works for me wish you well x
It’s totally normal to feel anxious try checking your temperature just a few times a day unless you feel unwell. Also, here’s a quick temp reference: 37.5 celsius to fahrenheit.
Hi, I also bought a decent thermometer and checked morning and night for the first few days after each chemo and then only if I felt unwell. Hope your chemo has started well this week, best wishes
