Well I've have a lumpectomy and radiotherapy ... noone has actually said anything about the above...

Until I know the answer I am refused travel insurance

I desperately want to go to see my bro in Oz

Feel so disheartened Pensive

Can anyone advise?

  • Hi Zizzie

Thanks for your post and well done on getting through your treatment!

I've been on a couple of trips since my treatment ended and was able to secure insurance.

After my mastectomy and lumpectomy, my surgeon said "we've removed all the cancer." And post treatment scans found "no evidence of disease."

Have you had anything similar? Perhaps a hospital letter, which confirms all your treatment and results to date? I've received a letter after each appointment detailing test and surgery results etc.

I think if uncertain,  you can ask your team to confirm.

Best of luck with getting insured and jetting off! You deserve it.

    Hugs, Shaka

  • Hi Shaka,

    Thank you for your reply

Not had any post treatment scans, will contact to ask.

My letter just said what they had done but no mention of all cancer removed

    Fingers crossed

  • Hi  , I can’t give any personal recommendations as my travel insurance is through my husband’s bank account. But we do pay extra because I’ve had cancer - each year he has to phone them and they ask me questions re my treatment.
But what I’ve seen here on this site is a thread about travel insurance which suggests some companies and also says that you should always phone - don’t try to apply online. I’ll have a look for the thread and in the meantime tag one of the ‘champions’ here who I’m sure has directed people to that thread before. Hope you don’t mind  ! Xx

  • Im really interested as I will need insurance for a holiday in September. My radiotherapy starts towards the end of this month ( 5 sessions) and then that is me done with treatment following lumpectomyvand a re-excision.

I thought that I would wait until treatment had actually finished before getting a quote

It's a good tip to get something in writing from the hospital though-as others have suggested in this thread

  • I don’t think I’ve had to supply any ‘evidence’ as such although maybe I did at the start? It’s nearly 7 years since my diagnosis. My husband’s insurance ask me each year whether I’ve refused any treatment offered (I haven’t - I had lumpectomy/ wide local incision, sentinel node sampling, radiotherapy and ongoing hormone therapy). We went to Bali within my first year post op which was before any post op mammogram or annual follow up.  I’ve never been told that I’m cancer free, only that my annual mammograms since the lump was removed showed ‘no evidence of disease’. • I may try several different companies-see if it differs

  • Hi Aia, the insurance companies haven't asked me for evidence. But the info from your treatment team might be helpful when answering the pre-quote questions. They do ask the question that Zizzie mentioned and I read that to mean they've removed all the cancer that's been identified.  Some people are living with cancer and I assume that might mean a different quote.

    Happy travels

  • Thank you all for this information.  I started a quote with my usual company the other day but it asked if treatment was still ongoing. Once the RT is completed, at least I can honestly tick that box.  Your comments are reassuring, but I will try and get something from the hospital just to be on the safe side.

  • I used a couple of comparison sites, which then provided me with a list of quotes from different companies

    ie compare the market

  • I regularly use toogoodtogo insurance, as they are one of the few who will cover me for the 2 months we spend in Italy over the winter.  Most won't give enough days of cover. So I was hoping that they may be kind to me-as an existing customer
