Hello all,

I was initially diagnosed at 33 with high grade DCIS and this year at 35 with a reoccurrence of invasive cancer.

I have already undergone surgery, chemo, surgery and will have radiotherapy in Sept. Post that my treatment plan looks like 10 years of 20mg tamoxifen

I am looking for any kind of stories and experiences from people in their 30s and 40s that have taken it. How was it for you? What changed ? The good, the bad and the ugly.

I am trying to mentally prepare myself on entering menaupase so much earlier than anticipated so any kind of information, heads up, trick and "I wish someone told me" tips are highly appreciated

Thank you all in advance!

  • Hi

I was 46 and premenopausal when diagnosed last year. I’ve been taking Tamoxifen for a year. In the first couple of weeks I had a couple of slightly warmer nights and there was also a few days when I struggled to get the right words out and focus. I changed the time I take it from morning to 5pm and since then no issues at all. Apart from ordering prescriptions and actually taking the tablet each day I wouldn’t know I was on it. I may be wrong, but I am convinced I have no side effects because I don’t drink alcohol and exercise almost daily. Some people report issues when changing brands so prefer to stick to one, I’ve had five or six different brands and not noticed any difference between them.

I’ve had a few periods in the last year but there’s no real pattern to it. Mine have always been dodgy though because of PCOS and I’m about natural menopause age too so I’m not surprised. Tamoxifen doesn’t put you into menopause and stop hormone production like AIs, it blocks the effect of oestrogen on certain parts of the body and ER+ cancer cells. x
