I was diagnosed on May 9th and start EC chemo tomorrow, I'm going to try the cold cap but in preparation I had a lot cut off my hair today. As I wrote in my resilience diary tonight ,I looked at the quote on tomorrow's page and it seems very poignant so I thought I'd share it.
Take care everyone
Sarah
I think it’s the fear of the unknown, I was exactly the same and we often hear stories of worst case scenario. Try to stay healthy, exercise when you can and if you want to try the cold cap. I make sure I drink plenty of cold pressed juices to get all the vitamins in me and I take daily multi vitamin gummies. Plenty of fruit especially high in vitamin c ones like kiwi.
Yes you're right. I think once I'm started I'll be able to just get on with it. Waiting is hard but I'm keeping busy with a mix of must do jobs and nice things.
You ladies who are a bit further on with treatment are doing well and I find that reassuring. It really is one small step at a time.
I'm going to try the cold cap next week and see how it goes.
You honestly will. Like you say the waiting and not knowing what to expect is horrible, you just want to be in it so to speak and know where you stand.
I have been on the cold cap, it is hard at first but you get used to it and it is definitely worth it. Wear something warm and take a paracetamol beforehand you’ll be just fine xx
Hi,
I saw my oncologist on Friday, after just one cycle of EC chemo the grade 3 lump is possibly slightly smaller, on the down side my hair is coming out which I’m really struggling with as it’s the first outward sign I have cancer. I’ve always had thick hair and seeing it come out is hard, I’ve bought a wig just in case.
2nd chemo tomorrow and I’ll try cold cap again.
take care
sarah
Hi Sarah. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone, i had my second EC yesterday and despite cold capping mine has come out a lot which is just horrible. I visible bald patches now. I have one more left on 4th Aug. How many do you have left?
Thankyou, I have 3rd EC chemo in August then switch to another type.
I assume this is a wig, as you said you'd had your hair cut shorter. You cannot tell! It looks so lovely and natural.
I am doing chemo next. Just had lumpectomy 3 weeks ago...get results tomorrow and if no further surgery chemo will be soon.
My hair is thin but I feel like it's one of my defining feature and I know I will be very emotional if it falls out.
I don't understand how humans can go to the moon and other planets and we have AI but we cannot work out how to target the bad cells only in cancer treatment
Yes it's a wig and cost less than £20 ! I did my research though.
It does amaze me like you how much we can do as humans yet chemo still the best option sometimes. My brother had immunotherapy and it did wonders for his esophageal cancer.
Hope you get some good news tomorrow, I'm having mastectomy once chemo done.
Take care x
Interestingly my partner has shares in a pharmaceutical company called Avacta. They have developed something that you take with chemo that protects the hair cells and therefore no hair loss. Unfortunately it has not made it out of trials yet.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
