Hi all..
Random ? How long do you have to keep a bra on for 24 hours, after a lumpectomy please..
Hi Sjm welcome to the forum. I had to wear my soft bra for 24 hrs for 4 weeks. Sometimes this can be longer depending on how quick you heal up. I was told that the main reasons for wearing it like that is to reduce swelling after the op, offer support for the breast and try to keep the shape of the breast. Have you had your surgery yet ? Hi Gail.. Thank you.. That makes total sense, Yes had surgery on the 4th June, back for pathology this Thursday
Lying here melting and trying to resist the urge to whip it off!! Sarah x
Hi,
Good morning, on the subject of bras
I had three biopsies and didn't wear a sports bra afterwards, I just wore my usual t-shirt bra as I thought it would be supportive enough, I hadn't read up a lot before my appointment as I wasn't expecting to have any biopsies that day,I was a bit shocked at my appointment and not as well informed as I should have been.
I developed a large painful haematoma, it gradually developed after a week and will take a few weeks to settle down so in hindsight I should have bought and worn a more supportive sports bra after my biopsy.
The leaflet I was given said a supportive bra would make it more comfortable but it didn't mention that it could reduce the risk of a haematoma.
So that's my tip, a more supportive sports bra after biopsies, not just for the pain going over bumps etc but to reduce bruising and risk of a haematoma, no ibuprofen/aspirin and try not to do too much for a few days after.
Hope it's cooler and you're a bit more comfortable :)
Hi..
Thanks so much for your reply.. I’m sorry you suffered so badly after your biopsies, the advice I received was very sketchy like yourself..
I am wearing soft bra’s, but don’t think the support is enough.. Will go get myself a supportive sports bra!!
Bit cooler today, thank god !!! Take care x
Thanks again I will have a read.. All the very best with your op! Take care
Hi,SJM
I was told 6 weeks 24/7 then three weeks for day time. It's hard keeping it on in this heat, so I had an idea to make it less sweaty. I bought a cotton sun vest a size smaller only £2 Primark .so it would be sung but not tight and I have put that on first then my bra on top and so far it's the comfiest I've been since my op.
