Hello, I am wondering if someone can help me -  very anxious. Day 10 after chemo - feel ok. Have had Zarzio injections to boost white blood cells - last one Monday. Today I am worried that I forgot to wash a large tomato from Sainsbury’s that had been by the fridge. Spoke to the hotline at my hospital. They think it unlikely to cause a problem but to be vigilant. Any reassurance from this forum would be excellent. Every thing else defo was he it was just one tomato.

  • Hi   just wanted to reassure you that mistakes happen and as a rule things will be fine! Obviously do your best to wash all fruit and veg, but it’s really not the end of the world if you forget!
All these guidelines are there to try and give us the best chance of avoiding all bugs/germs while our immune system is low!
However I worked as a nanny to two young children throughout my Chemo. They came into contact with slap Cheek and Chicken pox while at school/nursery and of course the usual coughs and colds. But I washed my hands regularly and carried around anticeptic hand wash and I was fine!
So yes we/you need to be careful but please try not to worry. Just relax and concentrate on counting down the days to the end of your Chemo and getting back to a life where you can eat what you want and not have to worry if you forget to wash it.

Sending much love your way. Good Luck with your ongoing treatment. Kind regards Sal xxx
