Breast Pain

Hello, I am looking for some advice. I had Lumpectomy in January and Radiotherapy in March. I healed well or my wound did. As my cancer was hormone positive I stopped HRT in December on diagnosis. That part is not easy. About a month a go I had a couple of ugly spots/blister appear. They are still there, red and purple in colour, they look like they will scar. Over the weekend I noticed my breast was sensitive and heavy (hubby went over bump in road) I thought I was over that stage. By the evening I had a nagging ache, rib sensitivity and low pain under armpit (operated side) this got worse through the night. On rubbing I noticed I had a big lump under boob (exterior left) opposite surgery side (posterior right). It felt very hot and sore and was red along with the area around it. It came from no where. On feeling it, my stomach done somersaults as I panicked. I went to doctor next day who said it was a cyst, likely infected and prescribed antibiotics. 5 day course. 2 days in, my whole breast is now hot and I also have discomfort in the nipple,  increased pain and discomfort in armpit. I have rib and shoulder pain (adjacent location to breast). Tonight I notice my neck has become stiff on the same side. Is this a delayed reaction to Radiotherapy, HRT withdrawel, or I am doing something wrong? I feel very nervous because it is on the same breast as the cancer was and I cant stand touching it. I had IDC hormone positive with clear margins and no spread to lymph nodes. The pain and discomfort is a gnawing one that you can't ignore. Anybody experienced this?

Xx

  • Hi   I would absolutely call my BCN and ask to be seen today to have this checked and also set your mind at rest. The antibiotics aren’t kicking in and you are in pain. The lump could be a seroma or radiotherapy effects (my boob is often painful and my radiotherapy was in Feb). I have had breast cysts before and when they get infected they are very painful and cause redness / streaking etc and (for me) shivery / flu-like symptoms. I would push to get this sorted today. Good luck x
