I had a 5 day course of radiation in Feb 2024. I was on Exemestane but stopped that last September due to side effects, so now I’m not on any active treatment. In January, I got an extremely sore patch on my forehead, itchy, blisters in some areas bleeding. After several courses of antibiotics ( which didn’t help) and I forgot how many creams, it finally responded to steroids after 2 months. Then I got sore eyes, thought it was hay fever and almost overdosed on antihistamines & drops ( still have it). Then my left arm erupted in very itchy patches. Last week, to my utter embarrassment- as I was on holiday- I got a very similar area around my vulva & bottom. It’s so sore & irritated that the skin is oozing & im having to use sanitary pads. I’m thoroughly fed up with it as I’ve never suffered from allergies or sensitive skin. It got me wondering if it’s all tied in to the treatment, possibly radiation, even though apart from my left arm, the radiation didn’t touch most of these areas. But can it cause this type of reaction? Or could it be the Exemestane knocked my oestrogen for six?Nothing else has changed, same shower gel & moisturiser. It’s puzzling me, but I’m fed up going to the Dr because I don’t know if these things are all just coincidences. Has anyone else suffered similar symptoms?
Hi Jennand welcome to the forum..have they taken bloods from you to check your systems for any inflammatory conditions? My skin is super sensitive and I can't use certain products or deodorants or shampoo or hair products as I itch like mad with them. That does sound like something other than the Radiotherapy that has kept this as active as it is. It sounds awful for you ? Is your GP being of any help or even refer you to dermatology etc for further tests..either way you need that checked out as its affecting your life and wellbeing. Do let us know how you get on. Best wishes for now. Gail x
Hi Granny. Initially when the rash was on my forehead, I was at the Dr every week. I asked about a Dermatologist & he told me the waiting time is 1 year! So, each time I have a new breakout, I now try to manage it myself. I do have a health check with my Practice nurse on Friday so I’ll fill her in. I’ve also considered contacting my breast team, just to update them, although I’m not anxious about it being anything sinister. But, you know, we go through a lot don’t we and it’s hardly any wonder our bodies rebel. I haven’t really had a sustained “ healthy” period since I was diagnosed 18/12 ago.
After a very disturbed night I decided not to wait any longer & got an emergency appt with gp. He was quite concerned by just how much the area is swollen & sore. He took swabs, blood tests & urine check. Prescribed steroid cream & suggested referral to gynae if my platelet count or White cell count is raised. He was a bit non committal when I asked if there could be a link with radiation or medication, just said cancer & its treatment affects people in different ways & it would be difficult to tell. So, I’ll wait for the test results now.
