I have been on exemestane for 4 months and have started to notice blurred vision I think it's hard to explain I thought it I was lightheaded but now I think my vision has been affected any thoughts or same experience?

  • Hi Moly welcome to the forum. Did you have Radiotherapy at all? My main reason for asking is that I had breast cancer and had radiotherapy and developed cataracts in bith eyes. The eye Consultant said it is a known longer term effect from Radiotherapy. Personally I would make an appointment with your optician and get them to check this out for you and put your mind at rest..Some drugs can affect our eyes but I don't know about the one you mentioned, sorry. Best Wishes Gail

  • Hi Gail I did have radiotherapy for breast cancer and I wasn't aware of this thank you I will get it checked out Blush

  • Hi Moly

I also developed cataracts in both eyes after treatment. My eyesight got noticeably blurry. The optician said it was most likely caused by the high dose steroids during chemotherapy but I also had radiotherapy so it could have been either I suppose.

  • Hi Veep thank you for replying my oncologist says its to recent, I didn't have chemotherapy just radiotherapy this was in February of this year ,I'm going for an eye test anyway because I know my eyes feel different.

  • Hi

I had both chemo and radio and I have very early cataracts . The optician says it could be from treatment .so I would get an eye test .

  • Thank you for replying and eye test booked Blush

  • Steroids are a well-known cause for cataracts beginning (as is sunbathing in earlier years!) but modern radiotherapy for bc apparently shouldn’t have too big an effect, according to the information I’ve read.

However, an eye exam by optician should reassure and referrals made if and when needed. The lens replacement surgery is quick, painless and very efficient.

I’ve now successfully had both eyes done, (I’m 80 now) but still need contact lenses due to a corneal condition. It takes a while for the experts to get the prescription totally right afterwards, but all is well now.

  • Hi Moly I have been on exemestane for six months and my vision is blurry and have watery eyes.  I went to optician and my glass prescription has gone from 1.75 to 3 in less than a year.  He also said I have dry eyes so now I use hylo forte drops.  The oncologist said Exemastane can cause dry eyes.  So yes I definitely think it can affect your eyes.  I guess it is just something we are going to have to put up with.

  • Hi Lee thank you for replying, I have a eye examination soon ,but my consultant said its nothing to do with the exemestane but I know my eyes are blurry.

  • I was on Exemestane for 5 months before my optician told me I needed cataract surgery. At my previous check 1 yr prior, nothing was noted. So I went from no cataracts to needing surgery in 1 yr. 1st eye done 2 weeks later & 2nd eye 4 weeks after that. Surgery itself was  easy enough but it took quite a while to get my prescription right afterwards.  All this was just 5 months after breast surgery & radiation. So 2024 was a tough year for me.
