Hi. I just wondered when people died their hair for the first time following the end of cold capping/chemo?
I haven't had chemo, am waiting for radiotherapy-but was at the hairdressers last week and she said that sometimes after cancer treatments, hair colours don't always take.
I get a wella semi permanent colour, and it is pretty gentle, free of amonia and lots of the nasty chemicals ( altho no dye is completely natural)
Daughter was probably a year after hair first started growing back. She was keen to do it earlier but hairdresser said hair wasn't yet ready. I suppose it was about 3 or 4 inches long (it's very thick but slow growing) when hairdresser said it was fine. Daughter had it done in the salon, her hairdresser researched and found a suitable post-chemo brand. Very pleased with result.
I am nearly at the end of treatment I have been cold capping and managed to keep nearly all my hair. I am a mousy colour naturally but have been dyeing blonde for over 25 years. My roots are now approx. 3 inches long and I found that my dyed hair is breaking where my roots have grown to which is odd.
I was told 6 months before dyeing unless water or vegetable based dye so I have bought some lovely cheap wigs on tik tok and have been embracing them when I go somewhere nice. I would say though if you were to buy a wig this way make sure that you follow creators that wear them as I bought 1 that didnt and it was awful but it was only £10 so I'll use it for halloween xx
Good luck with everything x
Hi
I like this post.
I finished chemo at the end of January this year and radiotherapy in March. and by the end of February it had started growing back.
I had thick curly hair before I lost it all and dying it all the time.
It was by the specialist team that its advisable not to do anything whilst its growing but its practically grey (I'm 46) and I've been taking hair vitamin gummies from Superdrug. It feels like it grows in spurts but getting to the point that I run my fingers through it.
I do get odd looks and then self conscious thoughts creep in. I may leave it until next January to see how long it grows and the condition.
I've found using Pantene and baby shampoo helps when washing hair every day due to hot sweats.
