Frozen shoulder 7 months after mastectomy

Has anyone else had this? I had a left mastectomy, 2 lymph nodes removed and no chemo/radiation. I now have a frozen should and an inflamed tricep with no logical explanation. I do all the stretches and don't do anything that would explain this sort of injury so am assuming it has to be surgery related.

  • Oh nooo,  , so very sorry you’re struggling! I was very aware of the potential for this, having had surgery on that same shoulder many years before, for a bad impingement.

I suggest you ask for an urgent physiotherapy referral for a cancer specialist physio to help with this, it may well take quite a long time to get improvement but hopefully it will, with specialist help. In the meantime please do continue with the shoulder exercises (I haven’t stopped and my surgery was a year ago, rads last July) andd persist even though painful.

  • Thank you for your response Moomy. It's really helpful to hear other people's experiences and at least I have an answer now which is a relief. Inspired by what you wrote, I spoke to a McMillan nurse today and have sent an email to the breast care team at the hospital who can hopefully organise this for me.

    Thank you again, Cx.
