Tamoxifen and joint pain

Hi I’ve been on tamoxifen for over a year now and the last month I’ve been suffering from joint pain which can be quite severe in the morning I’ve been taking regular analgesia and exercising which is helping but at times only takes the edge off the pain and stiffness. Does anyone know what supplements I can take which might help which won’t affect tamoxifen thanks Heather

  • Hi

Have you tried different brands of tamoxifen?  Sorry, I can't help with supplements, but the brands do have different coatings and they can make a huge difference.  I was on Anastrozole and had Accord, I was swapped to Consillient at one point as that's just what the pharmacy just gave me - OMG!  I felt like I was hit like a truck.  I tested them twice over a period of time and the same thing happened, so I checked ingredients of all the Anastrozole that could be prescribed (cheaply) by the NHS and discovered marked difference in their coatings.  Accord and Teva were the same, so I got my doctor to write "Accord of Teva brand only" on my prescription slip.  I never suffered with aching joints in the 5 years after this.

Hopefully in the meantime, someone comes up with some supplements that might help.

    Kindest wishes, Lesley

  • Hi there, I have chronic joint pain from my heart medication and I have found that collagen has worked for me. I initially bought it to help with hair loss but the difference in my joint pain is unbelievable

  • Thanks Alison looks like the collagen has many benefits I’ll certainly look into it might just be what I need thanks Heather

  • I hope you find something that works. I’m waiting for a mastectomy and the a similar drug, so any advice would be helpful

  • Hi Alison I was very lucky I didn’t need a mastectomy I had a lumpectomy and 5 rounds of radiotherapy I’ve been on the tamoxifen for over a year now and at the start had some flushes but they eventually stopped but the joint pain only started about 4 weeks ago which was disappointing cause I thought if I was going to get any side effects it would be at the start of my treatment good luck when you get your surgery I’m sure it will be fine Heather

  • Thanks Lesley that’s something I could look into it never crossed my mind to ask about changing the brand thanks again Heather
