Hello Everyone I had a simple mastectomy on March 6th and am finding it really hard coping with it all. I am still waiting for the results of the oncotype DX test that apparently has been sent to America and takes about 2 to 4 weeks to come back. This test will tell me if I need chemotherapy I am not sleeping and crying. They have started me on letrazole tablets which are causing night sweats

  • Hi

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've not had letrozole I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

I'm sorry to read how badly the waiting for the results of your tests are affecting you and wondered if you'd spoken to and explained this to your BCNS or GP? They have a duty of care and should be able to explore ways of helping you.

You might find this information on how to ease worry when waiting for medical results helpful to have a look through.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending ((hugs))

  • Hi there, so sorry to hear you're struggling, waiting for results is so so difficult.  Maybe it helps to keep yourself busy and distracted to try and help you to stop thinking about it all the time.   It's positive that you're started on letrozole and I hope the night sweats ease once your body gets more used to the meds.  Best wishes

  • Thank you and I have made a profile which hopefully will help others.

  • Hi. I hope you are ok. What I would take from your situation is that you already have a security blanket in taking the hormone blocker already.

I’m not sure about anyone else but I have not been put on any hormone blockers yet (mastectomy Nov ‘24, lymph node removal Feb ‘25, chemo started April ‘25) so you are very lucky you are on those already as any cancer in your body will not be able to grow.
