Hi all.
Im on my second cycle of EC after having completed 12 weekly PC and am really struggling this time especially with regards to appetite and mucositis/diarrhoea.
The inflammation seems to start in my eosphagus and it is difficult for me to swallow even water so I am struggling to get fluids in let alone food- I’ve barely eaten in 5 days. I have the usual lollies and jelly and liquid iv but wondered if there are any other tips? I’m also taking loperamide.
This is so much worse than the previous cycle and I was admitted for 4 days of that one with neutropaenic fever. I have 2 more to go 3 weeks apart and I worry about getting through it. I’m on day 7 and there doesn’t seem to be any let up!
Im also obsessing about my temperature checking it multiple times a day despite being told not to as it keeps creeping back up then down again. My anxiety is making everything worse.
Any advice would really be appreciated!

Hi, I'm one of the champions here in this group and I'm sorry to hear you're struggling with eating. If you're struggling with water I'm not sure what tips I can offer, but from a taste perspective I found pineapple juice to be the most bearable during my chemo. It sounds like it's a rough time for you, so I just wanted to mention the lovely folks at Macmillan are at the end of the phone on 0800 808 0000 if you wanted to chat anything through with them or see if they have any advice. Best wishes
Hi there
I’m sorry you have mucositis , it’s horrible . Have you told your team and do they have any suggestions ? I had the same after cycle 2 of EC . I was prescribed omeprazole daily and took gaviscon and it made such a massive difference , This should at the very least allow you to get some fluids in . I used to drink huge amounts of iced water / juice and ate soft fruit ( not citrus) , adding other plain foods as I went along
Please talk to your BC nurse about any concerns you have and about your anxiety and please come on here whenever you’re able , we all understand your fears and happy to talk through them with you , you’re not alone
big hug xx
Thank you! I am already on omeprazole and tried gaviscon which didn’t seem to do much. I do seem to be managing to eat better now.
i am more struggling emotionally and feel anxious/panicked and low all the time. I am speaking to my BCN and GP for support.
thanks again!
