Hi

i finished Chemo in Dec and my Radio in January this year. I had a lumpectomy June 2024. I was just wondering if anyone else suffers with a sore boob after treatment.

  • Hi, I had chemo first, then lumpectomy and then radiotherapy but yes, I had a lot of swelling and tenderness for many months afterwards and some sharp pains which I understand were nerves healing. I think it depends what you mean by a sore boob, but a certain amount of discomfort is pretty normal.   If you're concerned or it's bothering you, have a chat with your nurse and take their advice. Best wishes

thank you yeah sharps pains and tenderness on the left side . I did talk to my nurse and she said radiotherapy is the gift that keeps giving and can cause lots of pain. I just wanted to see if anyone else felt this . Just thought with it being January that it would have eased . Still having herceptin injections so that cld be also causing it. Hope your doing well x

  • Hi  , just had a quick prod at both boobs… the treated side is still tender in numerous places and it’s over 6 years since my op and radiotherapy. I don’t get the sharp shooting pains anymore but remember them post rads for quite some time. I suspect the tenderness is here to stay for me, after so long. I find manual examinations painful and definitely mammograms, but have finished my annual follow ups so will only have them every 3 years now, if all going well. I have mild lympheodema in my treated breast which may contribute to the pain too, I don’t know. And I don’t know about Herceptin as mine was hormone receptive only. Does seem like these treatments keep giving for a long time! But obviously if any of it is concerning then do get it checked out. Love and hugs, HFxx
