I had my one year end of active treatment appointment and my first of five years surveillance mammograms last year. After both I was told verbally, and in writing, that if I had any concerns I could contact breast care nurses direct under 5 years patient initiated follow up.
Just had my second of five years surveillance mammogram and instead told if I have any concerns I have to go back to my GP and ask to be re-referred.
Has anyone else had this change?
Generous me is wondering if it’s a simple admin error. Cynical me is wondering if it has anything to do with what I’ve read in the media about hospitals having been asked to review and remove patients from waiting lists …
Hi raedd
I'm going to my 3rd mammogram since finishing treatment on Tuesday so I'll report back.
Anne
I hope it goes well and you get an all clear
and thanks. I’d put it down as an admin error, but then I read newspaper articles about the ways they’re reducing waiting lists and I started to wonder. 2+2=5 I hope.
I think it might be a mix up but you never know. I just received a letter from my GP for my routine mammogram despite the fact I'm still mid treatment for my cancer and have been told by my breast surgeon and plastic surgeon that the nurses would be in touch for my follow up in the future and I would be having annual mammograms for 5 years through them. Seems pointless to also be on the routine pathway. It wouldn't hurt to contact them and check though.
