Hi I’m having trouble with sitting comfortably for any length of time. About 6 months ago before all my cancer diagnosis I was suffering with sciatica down right leg and found if I sat too long my bum cheeks hurt, with a burning sensation. When I googled this said common symptoms of sciatica. Now I’m less mobile with going through chemotherapy it’s back with a vengeance. I’m worried because two weeks ago I had terrible constipation and GP thinks I might have anal fissure, could the 2 be related. Anyone else had or having similar issues????

  • Morning, @Csf

I have issues with sciatica and something else I can’t recall the name of with my lower back. It sometimes flares up and a sharp nerve type pain will go through my legs and has on occasions taken me out, not good! I spoke to my GP as I had a little panic it could be something related to cancer but was reassured that was very unlikely and referred to physiotherapy. Sitting for too long causes weak glutes (the physio confirmed I have) which in turn can make these types of symptoms worse so I was given exercises to do. I didn’t have chemo so don’t have experience of being less mobile due to that but sit at a desk all day for work. Making myself do these exercises, even when uncomfortable, alongside my usual exercise definitely helps. Perhaps you could ask to see a physiotherapist with experience of supporting people going through chemo who could adapt a programme to be manageable for you?

It’s not pleasant so I empathise and hope your symptoms ease soon. x
