Ribciclib and immunity

I am due to start ribociclib for primary breast cancer. A slight complication is that I have Lupus and will have to stop the medication I take for that as it is incompatible with ribociclib.

My dentist has questioned how safe it is to have dental treatment such as root canal or extraction whilst taking targeted cancer therapy. I have got a lot of really helpful information from Macmillan about foods, food hygiene, hair loss, tiredness etc, but day to day life for me includes my dog and I wondered how careful I have to be whilst taking care of my dog.

  • Hi there, this is probably a good question for your oncologist. Mine told me I had to avoid picking up dog poo during chemo (that delighted my husband as you can imagine Wink) but I don't know if there is anything more specific for your personal case. You could also call the lovely folks at Macmillan on 0800 808 0000 and so for their advice. Best wishes

  • Hi Yares,

I am on Ribociclib and I have four dogs.  The dogs are a huge part of my life.  I havent had any information about taking care of them.  I still pick up their poo and walk them and feed them as normal every day.  They are all on the bed with us now.Grin

  • Hi Leex, thank you for replying. It is good to know there is another Ribociclib dog owner out thereRelaxed My dog is huge part of my life too, and I was really a bit worried.  I heard that I had to be really careful - I could touch and stroke my dog but had to then immediately wash my hands and to use disposable gloves when picking up poo - I really don't mind taking those precautions, but there is a bit more to daily life with a dog. Thanks again and take care

  • Hi Yares  I just wanted to let you know that there is another forum called Breast Cancer Now.   There is a whole thread for Ribocliblib for primary breast cancer and it is really informative.
