Hi. So I have been told at my hospital they do not do reconstructions straight away until after treatment.
I was told that if I wanted implant reconstruction (I am too slim to have diep flap reconstruction) I wouldn’t be able to after radiotherapy (causes implant hardening etc).
I’m now worried I’ll be flat forever as radiotherapy has been recommended after chemotherapy.
Has anyone else been told this and/ir had successful implants after radiotherapy?
(I had mastectomy in October and starting chemotherapy on Monday).
Hi,
I am having chemo before surgery in June but have also been advised against immediate reconstruction and told that implants are a no no due to me needing radiotherapy. They have advised a delayed reconstruction in 12-24 months time once recovered.
take care and good luck with it all!
