Nails and Chemo

I usually wear stick on nails on my fingers, they really keep my nails strong.

My Oncologist said that most ladies keep their gel nails on and find this protects their nails. I’ve seen mixed things on here about nails. Did anyone keep false nails on? I have had gels before but they tend to weaken my nails.

I have bought some polybalm which is supposed to be fantastic for keeping nails strong which I plan on putting on both my finger and toe nails.

My toe nails always seem to be quite bendy I think because I constantly have nail polish on them so was thinking of trying gel on them/stick ons.

  • Hello....

I was advised to use a nail strengthener twice a day, every day for six days then remove with acetone free remover then start the next 6 day cycle. It was suggested that I start on the first day of chemo and continue for a month or two afterwards. I did this with no nail problems. It might have been a coincidence but either way , it wasn't really difficult to fit in the two coats each day.

I don't know anything about false nails though although I thought I had read you should remove gels.

I hope it goes well for you and you  get the right advice. Take care.
