Hi.
I had my first EC chemo 12 days ago and ended up in hospital with neutropaenic fever for 4 days (neutrophils were zero!). I came home yesterday.
I feel a little cold and shivery but my temperature is normal and I don’t feel any worse in myself. I am still on oral antibiotics. Is this likely to just be because of infection we are treating?
my consultant wants to delay my second treatment a week and reduce the dose. Has anyone else had this? Will reducing the dose reduce the efficacy? I’m so scared it’s not going to work and/or the tumour will grow?!
I am highly anxious about everything and had to be given a sleeping pill the last night in hospital as my mind runs away with me and I keep calling the hotline even though o don’t need to. I’m also obsessively chewing my temperature and heart rate and can’t seem to switch off.
any advice?
Thanks in advance xx
Hi there, I'm one of the champions on this group and I just wanted to say firstly that it's good you are home from hospital, hopefully this means you can be more comfortable though of course I understand it's hard not to have the nurses around to check up on things. Maybe think about what you might normally do to relax? I found that keeping busy helped me to be distracted and I also use the headspace app to help me get to sleep.
In terms of the treatment delay, this happens to many people and I am sure that a week here or there won’t make a significant difference and your oncologist will (I’m sure) have had a lot of experience in managing different options for people.
You could also consider calling the lovely folks here at Macmillan just to chat things through. The number is 0800 808 0000 and they are great both for advice or just a listening ear.
I hope you find a way through the challenging stage of your treatment and that it goes better in the next round, best wishes
Hi, thank you for your response and advice.
i might give them a call tomorrow, thank you xx
